What Is an EORI Number and Why Is It Mandatory?
The EORI (Economic Operators Registration and Identification) number is a unique EU identifier issued by NAV. It is mandatory for every business trading with countries outside the EU – regardless of value or quantity. Without it, a customs declaration cannot be submitted and your goods will be held at the border.
Important: In Hungary, the VPID number and the EORI number are the same identifier – applying for a VPID automatically creates your EORI number in the customs system.

Yes – the requirement is based on the transaction, not the frequency. Even a single import or export crossing the EU customs border requires an EORI number.
